Will be primarily based at BIDMC. May support other locations as needed.

*Telecom Technician is primarily responsible for completing work tickets pertaining to cable installation, jack installations, repairs and trouble shooting.

*The Technician is responsible for the day to day work order tracking system and completing tasks entered into that system as time and expertise allows.

*Additional responsibilities may include trouble shooting other low voltage wiring problems, activation of data connections, cross wire of new tele/data installations, and other cable related duties as assigned.

*The Technician may be requested to assist with projects that require additional off hours.

*This position will be in contact with staff/customers from all areas of the institution and off-site locations and must be customer service oriented.

*The work is diverse in nature with changing requirements

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Routinely communicates with the Telecom Infrastructure Manager and others as appropriate, regarding department functions and the status of various programs, services, and financial objectives. (essential)

  2. Works to maintain Telecom Department SLA timelines for call backs, installations and problem resolutions. Responsible for accurate ticket reporting. (essential)

  3. Responsible for maintaining critical communications services in emergency situations and must be available off hours for major installations, upgrades, outages and on-call rotation. (essential)

  4. Daily work order monitoring and completion of requests for moves, adds, and changes as well as repair requests for all voice and data connections in a timely manner. MAC work will include x-connecting and patching end user devices to network and telecom equipment. (essential)

  5. Responsible for the installation and termination of Category 3, Category 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6a, CATV and other low voltage wiring as assigned. May be required to install cable and tel/data jacks in new or existing buildings including offsite locations. Will be responsible for testing and labeling same in accordance with BILH Telecommunications standards.. (essential)

  6. Must assume responsibility for Fire Stopping any penetrations made or found, and also must be responsible for organizing, forming, dressing in and labelling all cables to industry standards. Work may be required to identify and remove old, abandoned or unidentified low voltage cables and dispose of same. (essential)

  7. Must be able to work as a team member to assist with large cable installation projects, large moves, changes and repairs and share assignments. May be requested to work independently on small cable projects, installations and or perform site surveys as needed. (essential)

  8. Maintains proper levels of equipment, inventory of cable and jack parts. Insures recovered equipment is refurbished and returned to service as soon as possible. Maintains equipment lists and locations of same. (essential)

Required Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.

  2. 1-3 years related work experience required.

  3. Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. BICSI certification, RCDD credentials
