Pathology Technician

Anna Jaques Hospital is seeking a Pathology Technician to work in collaboration with the Pathologist and Department Director in performing basic standard histologic specimen processing. Located in the beautiful seaside community of Newburyport, Massachusetts, Anna Jaques offers a fast paced and challenging environment in a community hospital setting.

Duties

  • Specimen Processing : Performs basic standard histologic specimen processing to support which meet or exceed the requirements of the pathologist, assigns correct levels for charging purposes, accessions specimens by verifying patient and specimen identification and utilizes two forms of patient identification.

  • Record and Specimen Retention: Specimens and slides are kept in accordance with the laboratory's Record Retention Policy, records and slides are kept in a clean, safe environment and prompt retrieval of records or slides is possible when needed.

  • Medical Transcription: Demonstrates excellent medical terminology skills, types quickly and accurately and reviews work with pathologists to ensure accuracy.

  • Correspondence: Sends out letters of correspondence and specimen slides, ensures that replies are received and that final reports are completed for pathologist signature.

  • Pathology Module Maintenance: Builds and maintains LIS Pathology modules, ensure uploading of historical data, attends user group sessions, participate in all product system upgrades and provide capability to rapidly retrieve patient reports.

  • Quality Improvement: Assists pathologists by retrieving data and reports required for hospital committee work and prepare Tumor Conference documents.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma.

  • Experience in pathology, medical records, or in doctor’s transcription services.
