The schedule will be 7:30am - 4pm Monday through Friday, with rotating holiday coverage and occasional weekend coverage.
Job Description:
Performs cardiac ultrasound examinations as ordered by physicians and synthesizes information related to the patients' medical problems.
Essential Responsibilities:
Performs M-mode, two dimensional, spectral and color Doppler echocardiograms according to the established laboratory protocol and modified as needed by patient variability; queries each patient or reviews each chart/ or on line medical record for pertinent history. Communicates with reading physicians regarding all echocardiogram findings.
Determines priority for requested studies and revises schedule as needed to perform urgent outpatient and emergency inpatient studies; recognizes important and life threatening abnormalities on the echocardiogram and calls them to the immediate attention of the director or physicians.
Instructs cardiac and anesthesia fellows in scanning technique and works with them to complete contrast studies. Identifies patients with echocardiographic findings of importance or uniqueness for the hospital's and medical staff's teaching and research program.
Monitors supply inventory and notifies manager to re-order; maintains equipment in clean, running order and notifies manager if equipment repair is warranted or if record vault network is malfunctioning
Assists in training new echocardiography staff and in adapting new techniques to the protocol; instructs techniques of echocardiography performance, utilization and interpretation to fellow, house officers, students and new colleagues.
Maintains computer log of all patient studies; generates studies in digital format with all protocol specified measurements, utilizing M-mode, two-dimensional and Doppler modes, submitting each study ready for physician analysis.
Treats all patient information and laboratory findings in a confidential manner; responds to all patients in a courteous and professional manner.
Maintains field knowledge by readings, attendance at conferences and working with senior lab personnel. Assists in patient billing by logging studies on computer with appropriate demographics, attending doctors, referral questions and billing codes.
Learns to administer ultrasound enhancing agents (UEA) with consideration to patients' anxieties and contraindications. Monitors patient for UEA reactions and reports any problems promptly to the cardiologist, the code team, or both, as indicated.
Required Qualifications:
Vocational or Technical training required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required., and RDCS (or equivalent) certification required. New graduates are expected to obtain RDCS (or equivalent) certification within 3 months of hire date.
1-3 years related work experience required.
Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology either through college level courses in biology and anatomy and/or relevant acquired experience.
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Echocaridogram experience.
